Spontaneous Hemomediastinum and Hemothorax Caused by a Ruptured Bronchial Artery Aneurysm

A bronchial artery aneurysm (BAA) is uncommon and usually associated with chronic inflammatory lung disease or a systemic vascular condition, which is rarely the etiology of mediastinal hemorrhage. A middle-aged person presented with spontaneous hemothorax and hemomediastinum. A diagnostic evaluation identified a bronchial artery aneurysm as the source. To prevent further rupture, we performed ...

Hemomediastinum due to spontaneous rupture of a mediastinal bronchial artery aneurysm – A rare cause of thoracic pain

Hemomediastinum is a rare pathological event. Multiple underlying causes and contributory factors can be identified, such as trauma, malignancy, iatrogenic, bleeding disorder or mediastinal organ hemorrhage. Also, a mediastinal bronchial artery aneurysm may be the source of a hemomediastinum. Hemoptysis is an important directive symptom, however occasionally, patients only present with thoracic...

Percutaneous Embolization for Ruptured Ectopic Bronchial Artery Aneurysm

Bronchial artery aneurysm (BAA) is an uncommon disease, and spontaneous rupture of an ectopic BAA can be difficult for diagnosis and life-threatening. This case study describes a 52-year-old man who presented with acute onset of right chest pain, mild tachycardia, and hypertension. The initial diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction was made, and the patient was given nitroglycerin prior to ad...

Spontaneous Hematoma of Posterior Mediastinum with an Uncommon Cause: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Spontaneous mediastinal hematoma is exceedingly rare. We described such a case of a 61-year-old male with a posterior mediastinal hematoma from ruptured small aneurysm, which was ascertained via contrast-enhanced computed tomography examination. Subsequent super-selective angiography of left gastric artery revealed a ruptured aneurysm with contrast medium leakage, feeding vessels respectively f...

Bronchial Artery Aneurysm Presenting as Hematemesis and Mediastinal Hemorrhage

Hematemesis is a rare manifestation of a ruptured bronchial artery aneurysm (BAA) in the mediastinum. It is difficult to diagnose a ruptured BAA presenting as hematemesis, because it can be confused with other diseases, such as Boerhaave's syndrome, variceal disease, or a perforated ulcer. In this report, we describe a case of BAA resulting in hematemesis and mediastinal hemorrhage.
